About Soroptimist International of Port of Spain
Soroptimist International of Port of Spain is the founder Club of Soro Clubs in the Commonwealth Caribbean. Soroptimist International of Port of Spain is a member of Soro International which is a “worldwide organization for women in management and professions, working through service projects to advance human rights and the status of women.”
It is also the founder Club of Soro Clubs in the English – Speaking Caribbean. Chartered in 1959 the vision was to champion the causes of women and children both locally and regionally
This NGO has done phenomenal pioneering work. Some of these projects which have since become part of the National fabric of Trinidad and Tobago include:
SI Port of Spain – 50th Anniversary Celebrations
Soroptimist International Port of Spain has commemorated the 50 years of Soroptimism in Trinidad and Tobago in the year 2009. Through its charter in 1959, this club of pioneering women of action brought Soroptimism to the Caribbean and begun its work employing the ideals of volunteerism, advocacy and service
During the anniversary year, SI Port of Spain embarked on a yearlong set of activities which brought to the forefront the vast amount of social work done over the years to promote the advancement of the women, children and families of our country.
The theme for the entire year of activities was "50 Years of Empowering Girls and Women of Trinidad and Tobago for Success".
